KUALA LUMPUR - Unity advocate Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye has called on Malaysians to renew their commitment to building a nation that is united, peaceful, inclusive and prosperous for all in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
He said Malaysia’s diversity had always been its greatest strength, with differences in race, religion, culture and background serving as a source of strength, mutual respect and national pride.
Lee said that as the country faced various challenges, including economic uncertainties, rising living costs, social divisions, misinformation and a rapidly changing world, Malaysians must stand together rather than allow differences to pull them apart.
"Unity must be more than a slogan. It must be reflected in how we treat one another, how we resolve our differences and how we share the nation’s opportunities and responsibilities," he said in a statement.
He said prosperity must also be meaningful and inclusive, with economic growth translating into better livelihoods, quality jobs, affordable living, safer communities and greater opportunities for every Malaysian, regardless of race, religion, region or background.
"We must also ensure that no state or community feels left behind. Sabah and Sarawak, in particular, must continue to be full and equal partners in our Malaysian journey, while the wellbeing of every community across the Federation must remain a national priority," he added.
Lee said the government has a responsibility to uphold integrity, fairness, and accountability, while the people have a role to play in preserving harmony, respecting the law, rejecting extremism and misinformation, and contributing positively to society. - BERNAMA
