A MAN has been arrested following an incident in which a 19-year-old female factory worker sustained injuries to her lower back after reportedly being slashed with a sharp object in Tangga Batu yesterday evening.
The assault occurred at approximately 4.45pm along Jalan Tangga Batu, directly opposite Taman Tangga Batu Seksyen 1, while the victim was riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by her sister-in-law. Both women are employed at the same factory and were returning home to Batu 9 Tangga Batu at the time.
The suspect, believed to be in his twenties, was detained by police at a nearby residence around 10.30pm last night. Authorities confirmed that he is expected to be brought before the Ayer Keroh Magistrates’ Court this morning for a remand application.
Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, confirmed the arrest when contacted and said the case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which deals with voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
Media reports yesterday highlighted that the young woman had been injured when she was attacked by an unknown individual while travelling home. She was later treated for injuries sustained in the back area, believed to have been inflicted by a bladed object.
The motive behind the attack has yet to be determined, and police are continuing their investigations. - October 21, 2025
