
Kota Kinabalu: A 27-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court with trafficking 585 gm of 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA).
No plea was taken from Mohd Azlan Shah Jumat, who appeared before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin, after the charge was read out to him.
Azlan allegedly committed the offence on Sept 8, this year, at 12.05pm in front of the HKT Fumiture premises, Jalan Nountun, Inanam.
The charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane, on conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Akash Singh applied another mention date pending the chemist’s report.
The prosecution also offered no bail to the accused as the charge against him has no provision for bail.
The court fixed Nov 10 for mention while waiting for the chemist’s report.
Azlan was ordered be remanded further.
In another case, a 25-year-old man was charged with assaulting his wife.
Md Fikrie Hazim pleaded not guilty to committing the offence against his 24-year-old wife on June 3, this year, at 5.30pm, in an apartment, at Putatan.
The charge is framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code read with Section 326A of the Same Code.
The court fixed Sept 28 for mention pending an instruction from the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office after the complainant informed the court that she wished to withdraw the case.
Pending the date, the accused was released on a bail of RM1,200 in two sureties.
