KENINGAU: A 31-year-old local man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with the murder of his mother.
Elekson Langak, who was unrepresented, was brought before Magistrate Flavian Edward Henry, but no plea was recorded from him.
He is accused of murdering the 56-year-old victim at about 2pm on Sept 11 at a house in Kampung Katagayan, Tambunan.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, and if not sentenced to death, caning of not less than 12 strokes, upon conviction.
Prosecuting officer ASP Daniel Dominic appeared for the prosecution, while the court denied bail and fixed Oct 29 for mention, remanding the accused under Section 259 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
