Malaysian man irons RM50 notes at home for Raya, amusing netizens while raising questions over note safety
HANDING out Raya money packets with crisp notes is a cherished tradition in Malaysia, but not everyone has the time to queue at banks for fresh bills.
One man, however, found a creative workaround. A TikTok user, @userstillalive.1, shared how he used a “homemade” method by carefully ironing RM50 notes at low heat to smooth out creases, making them appear almost as good as new.
The video quickly amused netizens, especially after viewers spotted the stack of RM50 notes.
Many jokingly asked when his open house would be held so they could collect the generous duit raya.
Some comments added to the humour. One user said that although she did not know him, she would love to greet him this Raya.
Another joked that there was no need to iron the notes, as even crumpled ones would be gladly accepted.
Others raised concerns about the method. A commenter noted that while it may work on certain notes, plastic-based RM1 and RM5 bills could be damaged by heat.
Despite the debate, many praised his effort, with one user quipping that she was already too lazy to iron clothes, let alone money.
