Man jailed, fined for giving false statement to cops

Kota Kinabalu: A 54-year-old was jailed two days and fined RM1,000 or another month by the Magistrate Court, Friday, for giving false statement to the police by claiming that his car was stolen about five years ago.

Abdul Jalil Bongkol pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to committing the offence at the police station here on May 15, 2019.

He was charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to six months or fine up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.

Police investigations revealed that Abdul had sold the car through an agent.

Deputy Public Persecutor Batrisya Mohd Khusri applied for an appropriate sentence as the offence committed has cost police to investigate based on the complaint lodged.

“The sentence should serve as a lesson to Abdul not to repeat the mistake,” Batrisya said.

In another court, a 32-year-old entertainment outlet manager was fined RM1,500 or a month’s jail for operating without a licence, last year.

Leong Ka Sheng pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence on Dec 29, last year at Pintas Avenue Commercial Centre, Penampang at 2.19am.

Leong was charged under Section 3 of the Public Entertainment Ordinance 1958 which provides for a fine of up to RM50,000 or up to one year jail, or both, on conviction.

Prosecuting Officer, Inspector Suzie S.K. told the court police raided the premises and found that it was operating without a valid business licence.
