
Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was jailed two years and fined RM2,800 or another eight months by the Magistrate Court, Friday, for threatening to kill his wife and taking drugs.
George Chong, 39, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to threatening to kill his 38-year-old wife with a gun at 1pm on Dec 29, last year at a rented house in Kampung Mogonibung, Penampang.
He is charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both, on conviction.
George also pleaded guilty under Section 15 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years’ jail, on conviction.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik told the court that on the said day, an argument ensued when George’s wife found out that her husband had a relationship with another woman.
The couple also argued about George were bringing friends to the house regularly and his wife was worried about the safety of her two children, aged 15 and 17, who were living with her husband.
On Dec 24, the wife, who was working in the peninsula, return home to celebrate Christmas and saw pictures of her husband with another woman on his mobile phone.
Their eldest daughter admitted that she had seen an unknown woman in her father’s bedroom. This caused a fight between the complainant and her husband.
George slapped her and pushed his wife until she fell to the floor, causing her to suffer bruises on her left hand and right leg. The wife also saw her husband holding a gun but was not sure whether the gun was genuine or fake.
The prosecution also tendered four previous convictions of George, two from the Session Court and two from the Magistrate Court, for robbery between 2012 and 2014, with the longest sentence being nine years of imprisonment.
Duty Counsel Carmen Khoo, representing George, requested a lenient fine as he has to take care of his mother. However, Kelvan applied for a deterrence sentence.
In the same court, a general worker was penalised for stealing items.
Mohd Khairul Norman Abas, 28, was sentenced to Compulsory Attendance Order (PKW) for two months, four hours a day.
He pleaded guilty to stealing two bottles of Enchanteur ‘Queen of Courage’ perfume, three bottles of Enchanteur ‘Fighter of love’ perfume, two bottles of Vaseline Sun+Poll Lotion, and two bottles of Vaseline Fresh lotion at 11.30am on Dec 28, last year at Guardian Oceanus Waterfront.
Khairul was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine, on conviction.
Duty counsel Mohd Nazri Zikri, representing Khairul, requested a lenient sentence as he is the sole breadwinner of his family. Nazri also submitted that Khairul has no conviction record. Kelvan applied for a deterrence sentence.
