Man jailed for threatening to douse sister with cooking oil

Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man, who threatened to hurt his sister by dousing her with hot cooking oil, was on Thursday jailed 12 months.

Jerry Saidi, 23, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence against Penny Saidi, 26, with the intention of causing her to feel anxious at 7pm on July 3 at a house, at Kg Kionsom Lama, Inanam.

Earlier, the court was informed by the prosecution that prior to the incident, Penny was cooking dinner in the kitchen.

Jerry knocked into the cat and Penny criticised him. Jerry threatened to douse her with hot cooking oil, said the prosecution.

Read more The complainant fled into her room and later left the house with her husband and children to lodge a police report against Jerry, the court heard.

Police investigation revealed that Jerry, who returned home in Feb after quitting his job in Sibu, Sarawak, had been threatening his family members, the court heard.

Jerry was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both, on conviction.

Jerry, who requested a lenient sentence was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

In another case, a 37-year-old man was jailed 16 months for trespassing into a premises here with the intention to steal.

Lai Kah Chung admitted to committing the offence at 5am on Jan 8, this year at Luxury Bar, 88 Market Place in Kepayan.

The charge under Section 451 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years, on conviction.

According to the prosecution, a man, later identified as Lai, was spotted on CCTV of a nearby shop, trespassing into the premises after damaging the padlock and breaking the glass door.

The court ordered Lai to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.
