Manager fined RM7,500 for unlicensed outlet

Kota Kinabalu: A 22-year-old entertainment outlet manager was fined RM7,500, or 10 months' jail in default, by the Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for operating the premises without a licence.

Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin imposed the sentence after Zul Niezam pleaded guilty to managing the outlet at Crooners Lot 9, Sri Kepayan Commercial Centre, at 9pm on July 29.

The court heard police found the outlet operating using another premises' licence and checks with Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) confirmed it did not have a valid public entertainment licence, an offence under the Public Entertainment Ordinance.

The court also ordered RM150 seized during the raid to be forfeited.

In a separate case, Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain fined two Chinese nationals, Liu Qing and Mu Yonggao, RM5,000 each, or five months' jail in default, after they pleaded guilty to entering Sabah without valid travel documents following their arrest at the Immigration checkpoint at Kota Kinabalu International Airport on July 8, with both to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving their sentences or paying the fines.
