MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso inaugurated a school building with 68 air-conditioned classrooms at the Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School in San Andres, Malate, on Monday.
The six-story building also has other modern facilities, including a computer room, library, Alternative Learning System room, faculty rooms, a canteen, a clinic and two elevator units.
The school opened on Sept. 28, 1951, when Manuel dela Fuente was mayor.
The school "has served the Malate community for over seven decades and stands among the city's top-performing public schools," the city information office said.
The new building’s inauguration was the latest in a series of new and modern public school buildings Domagoso has initiated since he became mayor, the office said.
Under his first term as mayor, Domagoso initiated the construction of the new 10-story building for Manila Science High School, featuring 158 air-conditioned classrooms, a library, an auditorium, a basketball gym with roof-deck sports area, a canteen, and five elevators, built at a cost of P1.3 billion.
He also initiated the construction of the 10-story building at Rosauro Almario Elementary School in Tondo, “expanding capacity for students in one of Manila's most densely populated districts."
The office said the city is also pressing forward with the construction of a 10-story building at Ramon Magsaysay High School in Sampaloc.
The new structure will have a gymnasium, auditorium, four science laboratories, a library and e-library, outdoor sports facilities, and two rooms for children with special needs.
