Marcos launches EduPhil

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. inaugurated Friday the Education Philippines (EduPhil) Program to promote the country as a destination for international students seeking higher education.

This comes as the government saw the increasing relevance of international education as drivers of economic growth, innovation, cultural diplomacy, human capital development, and international cooperation.

Under Executive Order 124, signed on Sept. 8, 2026, EduPhil was established to globalize Philippine higher education by boosting academic and research partnerships while making it easier for foreign students to study in the country, in line with Republic Act 11448, or the Transnational Higher Education Act.

The Commission on Higher Education is mandated as the program’s implementing body.

Under the 2027 proposed National Expenditure Program, P1.326 trillion was allocated for education — the highest in history.
