MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding Filipino seafarers two years after he signed the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers.
Speaking at the Philippine Maritime Convention 2026 in Manila on Wednesday, Marcos stressed the law's crucial role since its signing two years ago.
“Two years ago, on September 23, 2024, I signed Republic Act 12021, or the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers, into law, a landmark measure for our maritime workforce,” said Marcos in his keynote address.
“As we commemorate its second anniversary, we renew our commitment to uphold the rights, the welfare, the safety, and the dignity of our seafarers,” he added.
