
SANDAKAN: The Sabah Region Four Marine Police Force (PPM) seized contraband cigarettes, subsidised cooking oil and a vehicle worth RM226,550 in two operations here here Thursday and Friday.
In the first operation at 7.10pm Thursday, PPM found 850 cartons of Astro Merah cigarettes in two unnumbered huts in a mangrove area at Kampung Batu 2.
In a statement, the cigarettes, estimated at RM204,000, were believed to have been smuggled into the country for local distribution, with PPM now tracking the supplier and seller.
In the second operation at 2.20am Friday, PPM intercepted an Isuzu Trooper at Kampung Kombo, Jalan Leila, and found 1,020 one-kilogram packets of subsidised cooking oil before detaining a 41-year-old man.
The cigarette seizure is being investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967, while the cooking oil case, involving seizures worth RM22,550, is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
