Nawanshahr administration gears up for smooth and peaceful conduct of Municipal Council elections in Nawanshahr, Rahon and Banga scheduled for May 26 under the directions of the State Election Commission, Punjab.

Divulging details, Additional District Election Officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner Avneet Kaur said that elections would be conducted for 19 wards of Municipal Council Nawanshahr, 13 wards of Municipal Council Rahon and 15 wards of Municipal Council Banga. She said that all necessary arrangements had been put in place to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the district.

Sharing the detailed election schedule, the ADC said that filing of nomination papers would commence from May 13 and continue till May 16 between 11 am and 3 pm at the offices of the designated Returning Officers. Scrutiny of nomination papers would be conducted on May 18, while candidates could withdraw nominations till 3 pm on May 19. Polling would take place on May 26 from 8 am to 5 pm and counting of votes would be held on May 29 at designated counting centres. The entire election process will be completed by June 1, 2026.

She further informed that SDM Nawanshahr Anamjyot Kaur has been appointed as Returning Officer for Nawanshahr Municipal Council and would be assisted by Tehsildar Gurmukh Singh as Assistant Returning Officer. Nomination papers for Nawanshahr MC would be accepted at the SDM Office, Nawanshahr.

Similarly, SDM Sunil has been appointed Returning Officer for Rahon Municipal Council with Tehsildar Nawanshahr Jaskaran Singh as Assistant Returning Officer. Nomination papers for Rahon MC would be received at Government Senior Secondary School (Girls), Rahon.

For Municipal Council Banga, Banga SDM Vipan Bhandari would serve as Returning Officer, assisted by Executive Engineer Mandi Board SBS Nagar Gaurav Bhandari. Nomination papers would be filed at the SDM Office, Banga.

The ADC also stated that the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect in the concerned municipal areas and would remain applicable till completion of the election process. She urged candidates to file nomination papers along with the prescribed affidavits and other required documents within the stipulated timeline.
