In a rare electoral outcome, the result of Ward No.7 of the Rajpura Municipal Council in Patiala district was decided through a toss after both BJP and AAP candidates secured an equal number of votes.

According to official information, BJP candidate Neelam Mehta and the AAP candidate were polled 953 votes each, resulting in a tie.

With no winner emerging through the vote count, election authorities resorted to a toss to determine the outcome, following the consent of both contestants.

The toss went in favour of BJP candidate Neelam Mehta, who was subsequently declared elected by the returning officer.

Meanwhile, the MC polls in Rajpura proved to be a biggest disappointment for the ruling party. In the 31-member municipal council, AAP managed to win only seven wards. The Congress and the BJP won nine seats each. The SAD won four seats and two Independents were also elected.
