The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Thursday regularised the services of 41 sanitation workers and announced plans to regularise 9,345 more safai karamcharis in a phased manner over the next year.

The announcement was made during a function held at the Civic Centre where Union Minister of State and Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra distributed regularisation letters to sanitation workers and launched the seniority list of 5,750 daily-wage safai karamcharis.

On the occasion, appointment letters on compassionate grounds were also handed over to dependents of 109 deceased sanitation workers.

Addressing the gathering, Malhotra said the BJP-led MCD was committed to ensuring the welfare and dignity of sanitation workers. He said regularisation would provide employees with job security and social benefits, while also bringing stability to their families.

He described sanitation workers as the backbone of the city’s cleanliness system and said their contribution helps ensure a safe and healthy environment for Delhi residents.

Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi said the move reflected the MCD’s commitment to recognising the service and dedication of sanitation workers. He said further regularisation would continue under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Sandeep Kapoor, chairman of the Department of Environment Management Services (DEMS) Committee, said sanitation workers perform their duties under challenging conditions and play a crucial role in safeguarding public health. He said MCD policies would continue to focus on providing dignity, stability and welfare benefits to the workforce.
