RANAU: A weak earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale struck the Paginatan area, about 14 kilometres south of here, on Saturday morning.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that the tremor occurred at 10.57am at a depth of 13 kilometres.
MetMalaysia noted that tremors may have been felt across Ranau and surrounding districts, where weak seismic activity is periodically recorded.
No damage or casualties had been reported as of the department's latest notice.
Residents who felt tremors were advised to remain calm and rely strictly on official channels from MetMalaysia for verified updates as monitoring continues.
