MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority conducted a walk-through at the People Power Monument on Friday ahead of the “Trillion Peso Movement” rally on February 25, as part of preparations to manage traffic and security.
The inspection covered entry and exit points, emergency access lanes, and possible alternate routes to cushion traffic impact in the area, particularly along Edsa and nearby roads.
MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III said the activity was part of standard operating procedures for mass gatherings in high-traffic corridors and historically significant public spaces.
“Our priority is to ensure that the participants of this activity and the general public is safe while making sure that our major roads are passable,” Torre said, adding that the agency respects the right to peaceful assembly while maintaining order.
Organizers said participants would gather at the Edsa Shrine at 7 a.m. for a prayer before proceeding to the monument for afternoon programs, with authorities expecting around 30,000 attendees, while the MMDA assured that no road closures would be implemented along Edsa, which would remain fully passable as it was declared no-rally zone.
