This is the 7th week of my Monday’s With Job series. A simple idea I started to share every Monday. One practical productivity insight to help you work better, stay focused, and finish stronger.

This week I wanted to talk about the power of the calendar. I was never a fan of calendars until I realized how powerful they can be. I use to rely on my memory for important meetings and due dates.

Initially it was ok, I was able to remember them well but as I got busier and taking in more responsibilities, I realized I couldn’t remember all of them especially important meetings and tasks that I had to complete.

That’s when I started to slowly use the calendar in Iphone and I did it consistently. I was surprised with some of the features that it had, for an example it will send you reminders closer to the time and date, which was brilliant!

Secondly, you can color code them according to events and priorities. So, on a weekly basis I would know how much time I needed to allocate for some of those events, tasks and meetings.

The best part of it all, there was no more forgetting something that was important and I was better prepared as the phone would send me reminders as well.

Here are 4 ways that a calendar helps you

  1. What gets scheduled gets done.

When you allocate a specific time for a task, it is more likely that you will complete it. It turns intention into action.

2. It helps you protect your priorities

Once you block out certain times or days for important tasks or priorities, it will not get pushed aside by less important demands.

3. It reduces stress to remember everything

Of course we wont be able to remember everything all the time and this can create unnecessary stress when we forget something important.

4. It creates accountability

When you are scheduling something, you are showing commitment towards it. When it’s not completed or followed through, you are responsible for it. By this it helps us to stay disciplined.

So if you haven’t been using a calendar yet, start using it and it will be really helpful for you to manage your time and priorities well.

If you found this helpful, share it with a friend so that it helps me to reach more people.
