Deceased Madhu with her husband.

The decomposed body of a 22-year-old woman, who had been missing for three days, was found in the bathroom of a rented room belonging to her husband’s live-in partner in the Manesar area on Sunday. The woman’s parents accused her husband and his live-in partner of murder. Both are absconding. An FIR has been registered at Manesar police station.

Police identified the deceased as Madhu, a native of Umrain village in Rajasthan’s Alwar district. She married Ankit Bhagat, a resident of Manesar village, on February 19 this year. Ankit was unemployed and worked in agriculture. According to the family, everything was normal after the marriage, but Madhu went missing under suspicious circumstances on May 21.

Madhu’s father, Ashok, alleged that Ankit and his family visited their house on May 21 and falsely claimed that Madhu had fled with jewellery. He said Ankit disappeared the next day when the family planned to file a police complaint. After the body was recovered, the family alleged that Madhu was murdered and her body hidden in the bathroom of the rented room before the accused fled.

During the investigation, neighbours told police they had seen Madhu leaving on a scooter with Ankit on May 21. The clue led police to suspect Ankit. Further inquiry revealed that Ankit had rented a room near the Manesar bus stand two years ago and had been living there with another woman.

When a police team reached the rented room on Sunday afternoon, it was locked from outside. Police broke open the door and found a strong stench inside the room. Madhu’s decomposed body was later recovered from the bathroom.

Sources said residents had seen Ankit and his live-in partner fleeing the room on the night of May 22. Police suspect the murder took place on the night of May 21. The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination. The exact cause and time of death will be confirmed after the report is received.

“The parents of the deceased woman filed a complaint accusing her husband Ankit and his live-in partner of murder. The accused are absconding. Police teams are conducting raids to arrest them,” said Virender Kumar, ACP, Manesar.
