PENAMPANG: A 32-year-old motorcyclist died in a crash involving a four-wheel-drive vehicle at Jalan Pintas Penampang near the Datuk Peter Mojuntin roundabout, early Friday.
District Police Chief Supt. Sammy Newton said the incident occurred around 12.50am when the 4WD, travelling from Plaza 333 towards Kota Kinabalu, entered the roundabout and grazed the motorcycle, which was moving in the same direction.
The impact caused the motorcycle to skid about 30 metres before the rider was thrown into a roadside construction drain.
A medical officer later confirmed the rider had died at the scene. His body was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s forensic unit for a post-mortem.
The driver and passenger of the 4WD were unharmed.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
“We urge all road users to drive carefully and prioritise the safety of others,” said Newton.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Insp. Saparia Ladoni at 019-8095133 or the Penampang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division.
