THE decision not to include Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Supreme Council extraordinary meeting this Thursday is because the Pagoh MP had announced his resignation effective January 1.

PN Deputy Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hasan, said only the remaining council members were called to attend the meeting.

He said that PN Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and PN Information Chief, Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Jidin, who also resigned previously, were also not listed as among those who would be attending the meeting.

“Under the PN constitution, membership of the supreme council must be decided and appointed through a council meeting. It is not automatic for a party president to become a member unless such an appointment is made," he said.

An invitation letter for the extraordinary PN meeting this Thursday that the coalition shared yesterday drew criticism from BERSATU leaders, who questioned why Muhyiddin's name was not listed.

Takiyuddin said Muhyiddin also sent a letter dated December 30, 2025, to PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, to inform him of the resignation's effective date.

Therefore, he said, the extraordinary meeting on Thursday will focus on three main agendas, namely electing a meeting chairman, approving or discussing whether or not to approve Muhyiddin's resignation, and appointing a new PN Chairman.

If the extraordinary PN meeting on Thursday rejects Muhyiddin's resignation, then Takiyuddin said the former Prime Minister must resume his duties. - January 26, 2026
