MANILA, Philippines — Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon on Saturday announced the upcoming opening of the city’s 3,140-square-meter Road Safety Park, a learning facility designed to teach children traffic discipline and responsible road use.
Biazon raised concern over lives lost due to reckless behavior on the road, citing overspeeding, failure to signal when turning, disregard for pedestrians, and unsafe pedestrian crossings as common causes of preventable accidents.
“Most accidents could have been avoided if there was discipline and proper knowledge of traffic rules. So for me, road safety should not start when getting a license. It should start while still young,” he said.
The Road Safety Park will feature simulated roads, walkways, cycleways, a demo area, signage zone, mock public transport stops, and a railway area to help children understand traffic signs, proper crossing, bike lane use, and respect for fellow road users.
The mayor described the road as a shared responsibility among motorists and pedestrians and thanked the Department of Transportation for partnering with the city in the project.
