NAIA operator, PAL ink airport use agreement

NEW NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) on Tuesday said that it had signed an airport use agreement with Philippine Airlines (PAL) with the shared goal of improving overall services at the country’s main gateway, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The agreement sets key performance indicators aimed at improving operational efficiency and aligning airline operations with the service levels required under a concession agreement with the government.NNIC said the agreement would govern the carrier’s use of airport facilities and infrastructure, and also set out the respective responsibilities of the airline and the airport operator.“This agreement gives us a clearer framework for setting expectations, measuring performance and working together to maintain consistent service standards,” NNIC President and CEO Ramon Ang said.“That is important to making airport operations more efficient and dependable,” he added. The airport operator said service levels were part of PAL’s contractual obligations and included mechanisms for addressing persistent failures to meet agreed standards.NNIC said it intended to use the agreement with PAL as a template for similar arrangements with other carriers operating at NAIA.“This is a positive development for both PAL and NNIC, and ultimately for our passengers. It supports the continuing modernization of NAIA and our collective goal of delivering a better airport experience,” PAL Holdings Inc. President and Chief Operating Officer Lucio Tan III said.NNIC said it was taking a similar approach in its agreements with ground-handling and other service providers at NAIA to better monitor service levels, identify where operational problems occur and require corrective action when necessary.“These arrangements are aligned with existing government regulations and NNIC’s obligations under the NAIA concession,” it said.NNIC is a business unit of San Miguel Corp.San Miguel shares closed Tuesday down P1.50, or 2.29 percent, at P64 each while those of PAL Holdings added P0.28, or 13.33 percent, to P2.38 apiece.
