Rosmah Mansor says offers to help pay Najib Razak’s RM50 million fine have come from Malaysia and overseas, including Canada
PETALING JAYA: Offers to contribute towards former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s RM50 million fine have come from as far as Canada, according to his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, who said the support had deeply moved her.
In a Facebook post, Rosmah said the support came not only from friends and acquaintances in Malaysia but also from overseas.
“I am truly touched. Not only by the contributions extended by friends and acquaintances here, but also by friends from abroad, from Brunei, Italy, Singapore and other countries, including as far as Canada.
“They contacted me to express their happiness over the latest developments involving Datuk Seri Najib, while also expressing their wish to contribute,” she said.
Rosmah said those who reached out wanted to see Najib reunited with his family.
“They only want to see Datuk return to his family. That is all. I never expected that so many people still cared and were willing to come forward sincerely to help,” she said.
She said the recent support had also shown her who had remained with the family through difficult times.
“Today, I realise who the friends are who have always been with us through hardship and ease.
“Alhamdulillah, thank you once again for all your prayers, love and sincerity,” she said.
Najib was granted a conditional pardon on Sept 18, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of the RM50 million fine and compliance with the conditions imposed.
UMNO subsequently launched the DSN Solidarity Fund after party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said it would help Najib settle the RM50 million fine required under the conditional pardon.
As of Sept 19, UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said in social media posts that the fund had collected RM165,645 in its first hour, RM634,562.02 within three hours and reached RM1 million by 9.30am the following day.
