KUALA LUMPUR - The Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidential Council today stressed that no individual is above the law in the country.
In a statement today, the council also expressed support for the stance taken by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as well as the advice given by the Attorney General and the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) to the Federal Territories Pardons Board.
"The Presidential Council also stresses that no one is above the law. Anyone convicted of an offence must serve their sentence in accordance with the law as stipulated in the Federal Constitution,” it said in the statement.
The PH Presidential Council also reaffirmed its commitment to continue combating corruption, advancing the Reform agenda and cleansing the country of any elements of abuse and misconduct.
The statement came following the decision by the Federal Territories Pardons Board today to grant a conditional pardon to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Earlier, the Presidential Council was reported to have held a meeting at the Perdana Putra Building in Putrajaya, believed to have been convened to discuss the latest developments in the country.
The meeting, which lasted more than two hours from 5.30 pm, was chaired by Anwar, who is also PH chairman, and attended by the coalition's top leaders.
Among those seen entering the building were Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim today granted a conditional pardon to Najib, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine.
The Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister's Department said in a statement that the order was decided at the 64th Meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya held at Istana Negara this morning. - BERNAMA
