PUTATAN: Political party members should respect their president’s discretion when it comes to candidate announcements for the coming state election, said Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Petagas chief, Mohd Isquzawan Israq Mohd Arsit.
He was commenting on several who have declared themselves as candidates before any official announcement by their party president.
“Members must follow the party’s constitution and not ‘confirm’ themselves as candidates. Such announcements should come from the president or an authorised representative,” he said.
Mohd Isquzawan cautioned that premature announcements could confuse the public, adding that only verified information should be shared to avoid unnecessary confusion.
He also urged Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to field more young and women candidates, noting that over 55 percent of eligible voters are youth.
“Young voters tend to relate better to candidates their age, while women are more trusting of female candidates,” he said.
