In the world we live in, information never stops. You hear news, opinions, rumors, and "hot" subjects from people every hour of the day. Let's face it, the majority of us are inquisitive. Who wouldn't want to listen to someone tell a hot story? I understand. I'm the same.
The true dilemma, though, is whether you should keep all you hear.
Most of the time, our brains don't simply ignore what we hear, especially when it's something unfavorable. It begins to put in extra hours.
"Why does she act that way?"
"How can someone act in such a manner?"
"What really took place?"
We become emotionally and cognitively invested in something unrelated to our lives before we ever recognize it.
In the moment, it seems amusing. "Just listening" is how it feels. However, it's not that easy. Information that might not be useful to you at all is being processed, analyzed, and stored by your brain.
Now consider this: how much knowledge do you really get in a day? A lot. Additionally, your brain automatically attempts to classify everything, including what is significant, fascinating, and worthwhile. The issue is that we don't always intentionally direct that process.
Some folks are able to listen and let go right away. They listen, give a nod, and continue. However, the majority of us? We play it again. Later, we give it more thought. We even discuss it with another person. And just like that, irrelevant information becomes part of our mental space.
However, things don't have to be this way.
Start by posing the straightforward question, "Does this information matter to my life?"
Let it go if it doesn't. Not everything you hear needs to be stored. You don't need to put all of your effort into each story.
One easy habit that helps is to concentrate on what really helps you rather than clinging to extraneous information. Write down anything that seems helpful, such as an idea, a chance, or a lesson. Store it anywhere—in a notebook or on your phone. Make room for things that add value.
Because your mind isn't a place to store unneeded noise. It's a place for purpose, development, and clarity.
It doesn't matter what you hear in the end.
