MANILA, Philippines — Displaying quick resilience, the Nxled Chameleons bounced back from an opening-day loss to Creamline by sweeping defending champion PLDT High Speed Hitters, 25-19, 25-22, 25-20, in the PVL Invitational at the Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday.
Middle blocker MJ Phillips spearheaded the victory with 13 points, including four aces, to earn top game honors as Nxled controlled the net and dictated the pace throughout the 90-minute match.
"After yesterday's game, we put in a lot of work... thankfully, it showed out here today," said Phillips, whose consecutive late-set aces in the third set capped off a decisive run that put the game out of reach for PLDT.
Myla Pablo rebounded with 12 points and nine digs, while Leyann de Guzman added 10 points and nine digs. Jonah Escamilla provided steady back-row defense with 15 receptions to go along with nine points.
Despite Savi Davison unloading a game-high 20 points for PLDT, the High Speed Hitters struggled with reception and unforced errors, giving away 21 free points to Nxled while only conceding 12.
With the victory, Nxled evened its record to 1-1 alongside PLDT in the fast-paced, nine-day tournament.
