Malaysia is only five days without a federal government and we are already anxious and overly stressed.
Even cats they say are exhausted with politics and politicians scurrying to find the middle ground.
Someone shared a cute photo of a cat slumped next to a cup of coffee just like many of us who are stressed out with politics.
Some could hardly sleep since election night thinking of what could happen.
Many are unnecessarily anxious about what would happen if one coalition is called to form a government over the other. Ethnic, religious and geopolitical issues are part of their concerns.
"What if this? What if that?" should happen are on the lips of people I met in the last five days expressing unfounded fears that might develop because of our ethnic and religious differences.
Consider yourself lucky when compared with the Belgians who did not have a Federal government for almost two years.
In fact, the Belgians went without one for almost 500 days since their last general election in May 2019.
David Walsh reports that Belgium's new government led by Alexander De Croo was only officially sworn in last October, bringing to an end 500 days of intense post-election coalition talks with partners. (Euronews)
Since May 26, 2019, Belgium has been governed by a caretaker government after the fall of a previous one.
The federal election that followed was precipitated by the collapse of Charles Michel's government in December 2018 that grew out of a dispute with coalition partners over the ratification of the UN's migration pact.
"Seven parties, which bridge Belgium's linguistic and political divide, reached an agreement on a programme for government on Wednesday which was approved by King Philippe on Thursday, ending the country's latest political crisis...." in October. (Euronews)
Anyway, we hope we do not have to wait 500 days to find a way out of this impasse.
The last five days are already bad enough for most of us not accustomed to a country without a federal government.
The rakyat cannot go through this uncertainty for much longer.
Will the relevant parties try to find a way out soon and let's get on with our normal lives again? Actually, everyone is quite fatigued by politics.
I look forward to the day when I meet friends over coffee who would rather talk about other things than local politics! By then cats would find other things to be curious about!
