
The Gurugram traffic police issued 24,471 challans and imposed fines of over Rs 2 crore on traffic violators in the past week. 16,068 challans were issued through field enforcement. These included 1,758 for wrong-side driving, 452 for road marking violations, 1,009 for pillion riders without helmets, 764 for not wearing seat belts, 993 for riding without helmets, 509 for drunken driving, 1,343 for wrong parking, 156 for dangerous U-turns, 242 for triple riding, 32 for over speeding, 70 for using mobile phones while driving, 41 for noise pollution and 387 for lane-change violations. Another 8,403 challans were issued through camera surveillance. These included 4,724 for lane-change violations, 1,594 for no-entry violations, 117 for over speeding, 143 for pillion riders without helmets, 167 for riding without helmets, 29 for triple riding, 1,082 for driving without seat belts, 327 for pollution violations and 220 for front passengers not wearing seat belts.
Police said fines amounting to Rs 2,31,83,600 were imposed through field enforcement challans during the period.
“To maintain road discipline and curb accidents, Gurugram Traffic Police has intensified monitoring on NH-48, Dwarka Expressway and Mumbai Expressway. Continuous action is being taken against motorists violating lane discipline and over speeding norms,” a senior traffic police officer said.
