Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old Indonesian man was jailed for six months by the Sessions Court here for overstaying in Sabah by 35 days.
Patrisius Boli pleaded guilty to the charge before Judge Hurman Hussain.
He was detained at 4.30pm on Oct 1 along a roadside in Telipok. Checks revealed that his Social Visit Pass had expired on Aug 27.
The offence, under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, carries a jail term of up to five years, a minimum fine of RM10,000, or both.
The court ordered Patrisius to serve his sentence from the date of his arrest and referred him to the Immigration Department for further action after completing his jail term.
During mitigation, Patrisius pleaded for leniency, saying he had children to care for.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Bryan Francis urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence.
