Partly cloudy to cloudy skies expected in NCR, thunderstorms possible

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecast fair Tuesday weather in most of Luzon including Metro Manila.

"Here is our latest satellite image wherein the effect of the ITCZ or Intertropical Convergence Zone continues in the Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan," Pagasa Weather Specialist Veronica Torres said in Filipino and English in the 5 a.m. Public Weather Forecast on Tuesday.

She explained that the ITCZ is the meeting of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres and said it was bringing rains in three said areas.

Torres, going to the weather forecast for today, said it was expected that it would still be rainy in the area of Palawan.

The forecast for today for Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon was partly cloudy to cloudy skies. "There are chances of localized thunderstorms," Torres said. She told the public to expect that "this kind of fair weather condition" and chances of localized thunderstorms could continue until Saturday.

Torres said it was expected that the ITCZ "will continue to bring rains" today in the area of Western Visayas, in the Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.

She said that in the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao, partly cloudy to cloudy skies and chances of localized thunderstorms were expected today.

"We expect that by tomorrow, Wednesday, until Thursday, fair weather condition or partly cloudy to cloudy skies condition is possible in the Visayas and Mindanao and there still are chances of thunderstorms," said Torres.

It was expected that the ITCZ could bring rains by Friday in the area of Eastern Visayas, in Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and Zamboanga Peninsula, she said.

The ITCZ could bring rains in Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Eastern Visayas by Saturday, she said.

"But since that is a five-day weather outlook, there is a chance that it will change," Torres said.
