Partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated downpours over MM, rest of Luzon

MANILA, Philippines —  Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon would be experiencing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the effect of the localized thunderstorms, the national weather bureau said on Tuesday.

Weather specialist Veronica Torres of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a 5 a.m. briefing that it has, however, not monitored any low pressure area forming inside or outside the country’s area of responsibility in the coming days.

She said Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao), SOCCSKSARGEN (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos), Davao Oriental, and Davao Occidental would likely have partly cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

This weather system (ITCZ) is an imaginary line where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet, the Pagasa forecaster explained.

She added that flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains would also be possible in those Mindanao areas.

Meanwhile, the state-run weather agency said that the easterlies – winds that carry warm and humid weather – would be affecting Visayas and the rest of Mindanao where partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms would occur in 24 hours.

Within the day, Pagasa said the National Capital Region would likely experience a heat index of 43 degrees Celsius while the highest could be over Sangley Point, Cavite at 45 degrees Celsius, both falling under danger category.
