JOHOR BAHRU – Pas leaders will not be issuing any comments or holding a press conference on Saturday night following the Johor state election, as unofficial results pointed to a landslide victory for Barisan Nasional (BN).
In a statement, Johor Pas information chief Mohd Firdaus Jaffar apologised to members of the media gathered at Perikatan Nasional's (PN) main operations centre at the Pas Simpang Jeram headquarters, saying the decision was made by the party leadership.
He said no statements or comments would be issued on Saturday night and urged all parties to wait until the Election Commission announces the official and final results.
The development comes as unofficial results indicate BN is leading in 49 of Johor's 56 state seats, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) is ahead in the remaining seven constituencies. PN, Bersama and Muda have yet to secure a lead in any seat based on the latest unofficial tally.
Ahead of polling, PN component parties Bersatu, Pas, Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP) and Pejuang announced candidates for a combined 33 state seats under the PN banner.
Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin unveiled 16 candidates, Pas vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar announced 11, MIPP president P. Punithan named five and Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir announced one candidate.
The Election Commission has yet to announce the official results of the Johor state election as of 9.20pm.
