The recent buzz surrounding PAS' leadership succession has all the drama of a political soap opera that could keep eyes glued to the screen if it was shown on prime time TV.

With PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang's health in question, the party is abuzz with whispers of who will step into his prayer mat.

CNA's recent article “As its ‘last samurai' chief battles poor health, frontmen from factions in Malaysia's Islamist party PAS are touted as successor”, illustrates the seriousness of the party’s concern. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/asia/malaysia-islam-pas-abdul-hadi-awang-succession

Two main contenders have emerged, each with their own unique selling points.

First up, we have Dr. Muhammad Khalil, affectionately known as the "Son of the Sheikh." As the eldest son of the current president, he's got the family connection that can't be beaten. Plus, he's been groomed for this role since he was knee-high to a minaret. Some say he's a shoe-in, others say he's just a chip off the old block. One thing's for sure, with his religious credentials and party pedigree, he's not a man to be underestimated.

On the other side of the prayer hall, we have Dr. Ahmad Samsuri, the "Rocket Scientist Turned Politician." With a PhD in aeroengine ignition and combustion, he's not your average politician. Some might say he's got the brains to lead PAS to new heights, while others question whether he's got the spiritual horsepower to lead the faithful.

But amidst all the intrigue and speculation, one thing is clear: PAS is at a crossroads. Will they stick to tradition and choose a religious scholar to lead them, or will they embrace change and opt for a more progressive leader, like a rocket scientist?

Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure: whoever takes the helm will have really big prayer shoes to fill. Hadi has big feet, I suppose!.
