KIULU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Acting President Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam said the main goal of PBS in the coming State Election (PRN) is to ensure that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) continues to be given the mandate to govern the State.
Dr Joachim, who is also Deputy Chief Minister II, said the success of retaining GRS as the State Government is crucial for the continuity of development and political stability in Sabah.
“We must ensure GRS wins in the coming PRN,” he said when officiating the 40th Anniversary Celebration of PBS Kiulu at Minurod Campsite, Pahu, here, on Sunday.
Dr Joachim reiterated PBS’s commitment to continue fighting for the rights of the people of Sabah as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), while calling on party members to remain united and avoid internal divisions.
“Our focus now is to remain relevant after 40 years since the inception of the party. The younger generation must step forward as future leaders, identify problems and seek solutions,” he said.
Commenting on political cooperation, Dr Joachim expressed confidence in the close partnership between PBS and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (StarSabah) where both parties had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
“I am very positive about this cooperation. Nearly 99 per cent of StarSabah leaders are former PBS members. Our struggle is the same. If we do not unite, we will remain divided, and our voices will not be heard,” he said.
He said that strengthening GRS is a priority to ensure the voices of Sabahans continue to be championed in both State and Federal administrations.
Dr Joachim expressed his appreciation to PBS Kiulu Division Chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, who is also the Assemblyman (Adun), as well as the organising committee chaired by Aliamis Sami, who is PBS Kiulu Deputy Chief for the successful celebration.
Dr Joachim received 200 new membership forms from Kiulu and 95 from Tamparuli.
He urged all members to remain united and work harder to ensure the Kiulu State Assembly seat remains under PBS.
Also present were PBS Deputy President Datuk Seri Dr Yee Moh Chai, Vice Presidents, PBS Youth Chief Dr Christopher Mandut, Supreme Council members, Division Chiefs, PBS Women’s Exco and PBS Kiulu leaders, former Kiulu Assemblyman Datuk Louis Rampas and Jo-Anna Sue Henley Rampas.
