Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to increase Sabah and Sarawak’s representation in Parliament, describing it as an important step towards restoring the balance envisaged when Malaysia was formed.
PBS Youth Chief Datuk Christopher Mandut (pic) said the move was long awaited and went beyond increasing the number of representatives, as it concerned Sabah and Sarawak’s representation and position in the Federation.
“This is an important step to ensure the voices of Sabah and Sarawak are given their rightful place in decision making at the Federal level,” he said in a statement.
Christopher also credited former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili for consistently pursuing the issue at the Federal level and pushing for representation based on the original spirit of Malaysia’s formation and MA63.
He said the decision should now be followed by details on the number and distribution of additional seats, taking into account Sabah and Sarawak’s position as partners in the formation of Malaysia and the spirit of MA63.
