KUALA LUMPUR - The Registrar of Societies Malaysia (RoS) has cancelled the registration of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
In a statement today, RoS said the decision was made under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966 [Act 832] after the coalition's explanation failed to address the grounds for cancellation outlined in an earlier notice.
RoS said the reasons given by PN also did not provide strong justification for maintaining the party’s registration.
“In this regard, the Registrar of Societies has decided to cancel PN’s registration under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966,” the statement said.
RoS said it had previously issued a notice dated Sept 22 to PN under subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966, giving the party an opportunity to submit an explanation and representations regarding the matters raised.
Following the notice, PN submitted its response on October 12.
RoS stressed that every registered society is responsible for ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Societies Act 1966 and its own constitution.
The department also gave an assurance that it would continue to carry out its regulatory and enforcement functions firmly, fairly and in accordance with the law to ensure orderly, transparent and integrity-driven governance of societies.
PN had previously been embroiled in an internal dispute following a complaint by Bersatu to RoS regarding the party’s position in the coalition.
RoS had earlier confirmed receiving Bersatu’s official complaint on August 11, which included allegations that the party was excluded from the PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16 and an issue concerning its membership status in the coalition.
On October 5, PN filed an application for judicial review to challenge the suspension notice issued by RoS.
The application was filed by the secretaries-general of PN and its component parties: Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, who serves as secretary-general of both PN and Pas; Wong Chia Zhen of Gerakan; Satish Kumar of the Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP); Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah of Parti Wawasan Negara; and Datuk Sazmi Miah of Parti Pejuang.
PN named Registrar of Societies Datuk Mohd Zulfikar Ahmad and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail as the first and second respondents, respectively.
On September 24, RoS confirmed that PN’s activities had been suspended under subsection 13(2A) of Act 832.
The department said the notice was intended to obtain an explanation from PN regarding complaints lodged by Bersatu, stressing that it did not amount to a decision to cancel the coalition’s registration. - October 20, 2026
