
Chollo Bustamante erupted with a team high 17 points to lead defending champion University of Perpetual Help System Dalta to a 25-22, 25-23, 15-25, 26-24 payback victory against Mapua University in the final day of the elimination round of NCAA Season 101 boys volleyball tournament at the Arellano Gym in Pasay City on Monday.
Bustamante, a native of Alaminos in Pangasinan, tallied 16 points on attacks and one service ace. He was backstopped by Klarens Taino, who netted 16 points from 13 attacks, 2 blocks and an ace and Gabriel Macatuno, who contributed 11 points and 2 excellent receptions.
Setter Donald Sison recorded 14 excellent sets and a block while libero JM Regorosa posted 7 digs and 5 receptions for the Junior Altas, who bowed to the Red Robins in their first round encounter.
"Gustong gusto talagang makabawi ng mga bata, kase nga tinalo sina ng Mapua sa first round ng 5-sets, kaya nagsipag sila, at pampataas ng moral papunta sa quarterfinals," said Perpetual Help coach Sandy Rieta.
Roderick Medino led Mapua with 33 points.
The Junior Altas and the Red Robins finished the elims with identical 11-2 records in Group A.
Meanwhile, Colegio de San Juan De Letran defeated Arellano University in 5 sets, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-27, 15-12, to take the top spot in Group B with a win-loss record of 11-2.
Arellano dropped to number two in Group B with a 10-3 card.
The top two teams in Groups A and B will have the twice-to-beat advantage against their respective opponents in the quarterfinal round, which begins on March 23.
