Tuaran: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Tuaran division has challenged Warisan to withdraw from the Unity Government following a series of attacks by Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal against both the State and Federal governments.
Its Chief Razeef Rakimin said nearly every Shafie’s speech delivered recently was aimed at discrediting the Federal Government, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said Shafie’s remarks were not only defamatory and insulting but also reflected a desperate attempt to regain political support after his controversial statement labelling the Murut community as “kafir” (infidels).
“This is nothing new. Previously, he (Shafie) made derogatory remarks about the Chinese community by using inappropriate terms, and he also ridiculed the Malaysian Volunteer Department (Rela).
“Shafie said Rela members only know how to control traffic at weddings and do not know how to handle weapons.
“Shafie also tried to cast a negative perception of the Yang Di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah,” Razeef said in a statemen, Friday.
Razeef, who is also PKR Sabah Information Chief, said the Unity Government does not need leaders with such attitudes.
He said Shafie was clearly unfit to be under the Malaysia Madani framework, whose key pillars emphasise humanitarian values.
“Instead of continuing to ‘attack’ the Unity Government while still sheltering under the same umbrella, I challenge Shafie to pull Warisan out of the Federal Government.
“Start by asking his brother, Datuk Mohammad Yusof Apdal, to resign as Deputy Minister at the federal level — and then we will see whether Shafie is truly courageous or merely ‘barking up the hill’,” Razeef said.
