SHAH ALAM - Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has given Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar to take temporary leave from her position, with Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail appointed to perform the duties of deputy president in the interim.
In a statement issued after the party's Central Leadership Council meeting on today, PKR said her leave will take effect after the 2026 National Congress until a date to be announced later.
The party said the council has considered Nurul Izzah's request to step down from the deputy presidency but, after hearing views from both Nurul Izzah and party leaders, agreed instead to grant her temporary leave.
The council also decided that Saifuddin would carry out the responsibilities of deputy president on an interim basis.
Separately, the council agreed that Selangor Menteri Besar and Vice-President Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari would fully assume the role of PKR Election Director.
The meeting also discussed the outcomes of the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, with the party saying it accepted and respected the results.
PKR expressed its appreciation to party members and election machinery who worked throughout both state election campaigns and thanked former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun for what it described as his excellent service over the past two terms.
In preparation for the party's 2026 National Congress, PKR announced that Nurul Izzah would officiate the Women's Wing and Youth Wing congresses on Aug 14.
The statement added that the council had also approved the admission of 3,533 new members who registered online between July 12 and August 2026.
