PKR strategist urges BN to honour Unity Government pact amid NS political turmoil

PARTI Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) strategy director Sim Tze Tzin has urged Barisan Nasional (BN) Negeri Sembilan to honour the Unity Government agreement, stressing the importance of political stability until the end of the current parliamentary term.

Sim, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bayan Baru, said both federal and state administrations were formed after no single political coalition secured a clear majority in the 15th General Election, making cooperation essential for stable governance.

“The agreement for the Unity Government is to establish a stable government until the end of the term.

“I hope BN Negeri Sembilan will respect this agreement until the end of the term. Stability and the well-being of the people must be prioritised,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday.

His remarks come in the wake of BN Negeri Sembilan’s announcement that all 14 of its state assemblymen had unanimously withdrawn support and declared loss of confidence in the state government led by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

BN state chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said the decision was linked to an ongoing crisis involving adat institutions and the state constitution.

The political situation has since widened, with five Perikatan Nasional (PN) assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan expressing readiness to cooperate with the 14 UMNO representatives.

The development was announced by Negeri Sembilan Opposition Leader Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker at a special press conference held shortly after BN’s announcement, signalling a potential realignment within the state’s legislative assembly.

The unfolding situation has intensified scrutiny over the durability of coalition arrangements under the Unity Government framework, particularly at state level where shifting alliances could impact administrative stability. - April 27, 2026
