Kota Kinabalu: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim presented RM1,500 in special Federal financial assistance each to 111 heads of household affected by the recent Kampung Numbak fire during his visit on Friday.
The aid package comprised RM1,000 from the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and RM500 from the Prime Minister’s Department’s Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU), alongside food baskets distributed by Nadma.
The Aug 30 blaze, which broke out at about 1.40am, destroyed or damaged 202 houses across the stilt-settlement areas of Kampung Lok Buta, Kampung Lok Poring, and Kampung Sabang Lama, claiming the lives of three children.
City Hall Mayor Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah previously announced on Sept 9 that eligible victims would be permitted to rebuild on site after the land is surveyed and reorganised into formal plots to verify genuine occupants and avoid disputes.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, and Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin were also present during the visit.
