Two persons, including a policeman were killed while another one sustained serious injuries in a tragic road accident near Sandharsi village in the Ghanour area of the Patiala district on Monday.
According to information, the accident occurred when a speeding tractor reportedly collided head-on with a car near the village. The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was badly mangled, the eyewitnesses told the police.
The local residents rushed to the spot immediately after the mishap and pulled the occupants of the car trapped inside the damaged vehicle before informing the police.
On receiving information, the local police reached the spot immediately and initiated an investigation.
The injured person was admitted to a nearby hospital, where his condition is stated to be critical.
The bodies of the deceased were taken into custody and sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. One of them was said to be a policeman.
The local police officials said the identity and other details of the deceased police employee and the other person were being verified. They added that the exact cause of the accident was also not yet known but legal action was being initiated against the tractor driver. The tractor has been impounded by the cops for further inquiry.
