The police arrested an Ambala resident, Ranjeet, the prime accused in a case pertaining to injured road accident victim’s body being dumped to avoid police action on June 7.

The probe has revealed that instead of taking the victim to the hospital after the accident, the accused tried to cover up the incident by dismembering the body. Earlier, the police had arrested two other accused in this case.

The family of the victim, Charanjit Singh, had received information about him being injured in a road accident. They rushed to the scene and learned that Charanjit had been hit by a tempo. According to eyewitness accounts, the driver took the injured man in his vehicle.

The family searched for him in nearby hospitals, but could not find any information and reached out to the police.

DCP Srishti Gupta said the Amravati outpost team arrested the accused. “Instead of providing medical help to the victim, the accused tried to hide the matter by mutilating the body,” she added.
