Kota Kinabalu: The Government should prioritise basic infrastructure for the people of Kudat before making suggestions to erect the Mazu Statue in the district, according to Angkatan Belia Islam (Abim) Sabah Chairman Mohd Nur Hilmie Milus.
He said the proposals for a railway line, a port and a gas pipeline to Kudat should be prioritised in order to lure foreign investors to the northern districts of Sabah, which are in desperate need for more development and job opportunities.
“Dealing with the water problem should also be prioritised because it has become a crisis among Sabahans,” he said in a statement, Monday.
He said road problems are common in Sabah.
“Tourists from all around the country and the Asian region visit Sabah, but they are met with terrible roads and potholes, as well as homestays that experience water supply disruptions. This will have an impact on Sabah’s reputation as a tourist destination around the world.
“We hope the State Government will address these critical issues before reaching a decision on the construction of the Mazu Statue,” he said.
