Girls secured the top three position in Mohali district as the Punjab School Education Board declared Class XII results on Wednesday.

Simreet Kaur, a student of Government Senior Secondary School in Kharar’s Majatri village, emerged as the Mohali district topper with 97.40 per cent marks. She scored 487/500 marks.

The second and third positions were secured by Saloni of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Kurali, and Tarunpreet Kaur of Satluj Public School in Bhagomajra village of Kharar, respectively.

While Saloni scored 486/500 marks (97.20 per cent) and Tarunpreet Kaur got 484/500 (96.80 per cent).

Mohali was placed eighth in the list of 23 districts with an overall pass percentage of 93.86. Out of the total 7,775 students, 7,298 cleared the exam in the district. Four girls from the district made it to the state merit list.

Patiala district had the maximum 59 students — 22 boys and 37 girls — in the merit list.

Amritsar (96 per cent), Pathankot (95.66 per cent) and SBS Nagar (95.62 per cent) were the top three districts in terms of pass percentage.

Ludhiana (87.04 per cent), Muktsar (87.64 per cent) and Fazilika (87.64 per cent) were at the bottom.

There was little to differentiate between the pass percentage of urban students (91.24) from that of rural area students (91.63).

Non-government schools (92.68) fared slightly better than the government schools (91.41), while aided schools registered a pass percentage of 88.44.

Last year, Mohali had recorded an overall pass percentage of 93.07 as 7,133 of the 7,664 students cleared the exam.

In the 2024 Class XII results, the district had bagged the sixth spot in the state with an overall pass percentage of 95.50.
