Randhir Singh ‘Dhira’ Khuddian, a nephew of Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, has been appointed chairman of the Punjab State Container Warehousing Corporation (CONWARE). Dhira had been politically inactive for the past two years.
Talking to The Tribune, Dhira said, “I was informed about this development two days ago, but the official announcement has been made today.”
Dhira previously served as a deputy to Gurmeet Khuddian in the Lambi Assembly segment, where Khuddian defeated former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in the 2022 state Assembly elections.
Gurmeet Khuddian also took to Facebook on Tuesday to congratulate Dhira and inform the public about the development.
The 55-year-old Dhira had resigned from his primary membership of the Congress, as well as his post as Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) General Secretary, in December 2020. He had previously served in various capacities within the Congress, including as General Secretary of the Punjab Youth Congress.
Earlier, Banga MLA Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi was the chairman of CONWARE, but he stepped down in January this year following Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s statement that 169 of the missing 328 saroops of the Guru Granth Sahib had been recovered from a religious place in Banga, Nawanshahr.
