MANILA, Philippines — A typhoon outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility is expected to bring rain in most of Luzon, parts of Visayas and the entire Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Sunday.
"We can see here in our satellite animation our bright white areas are the dense clouds that are associated with the trough of Typhoon Choi-Wan. It will still bring scattered rainshowers in Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Leyte, Southern Leyte as well as the entire Mindanao," weather specialist Grace Castañeda-Carpio said.
Pagasa said that "Choi-Wan" was 2,610 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon as of 3 p.m. on Sunday and was moving northward at 15 kilometers per hour (km/h) with maximum sustained winds of 175 km/h near the center and gustiness of 215 km/h.
Luzon is expected to have cloudy skies with isolated or sudden downpours on Monday while Visayas and Mindanao will have scattered rains.
